The difference between and Article and a Journal:

A publications issued at stated intervals is what one might call a journal. Examples of journals include: academic journals,   scientific journals, or the record of the transactions of a society, such as the American Medical Association. In academic use, a journal refers to a serious, scholarly publication that is usually (but not always) peer-reviewed. A non-scholarly magazine written for an educated audience about an industry or an area of professional activity is usually called a trade magazine or sometimes a trade journal.

An ARTICLE is a piece of writing, written by one or more authors, contained within a journal, magazine or newspaper.
