Hi Diane,

To find information on your topic, I suggest you try searching our library catalog. From our library homepage, type in your search term in the search box. I typed in Authoritarianism versus democracy principles and found a good ebook on the topic: Encyclopedia of Science, Technology, and Ethics. If you re-create the search, then select view this ebook and you can find both terms (italicized above) in the book, where it explains each one in detail. Next, I just searched the two keywords together in the search box: authoritarianism democracy to find items with those two terms. You can then limit your results by format (left column) or just scroll through the results to find relevant ebooks or articles. There are over 100 ebooks that show up with the second search; you can limit your results to ebooks by checking the ebook box in the left column. Then you can "search within" them for your search terms to find the exact pages where they are discussed. You can also select from the "table of contents" of each ebook.

If you don't find satisfactory results in our catalog, you can try searching our two large database providers, EBSCO and ProQuest for journal articles. You can find citation information for them also, but be aware that some article titles may not be capitalized  correctly in APA style. Here are instructions for EBSCO and ProQuest searching:

Journal Articles - EBSCO Database (Scholarly journals, magazines, newspapers)

Go to our library web page at http://slulibrary.saintleo.edu

Click on the Find an Article tab.

Select EBSCO; this will take you to the EBSCO login page.

To login enter your SLU username [first name.last name] and the password that you use for your SLU email.

Select All EBSCOhost Reference Databases.

Check the boxes next to Academic Search Complete and any other databases that seem relevant to your topic.

Click on the Continue button at the bottom of the page.

Click on Advanced Search under the basic search box.

Scroll down the page and check the boxes Full-Text and Scholarly, Peer-Reviewed , if desired.

Enter your search terms in two or more search boxes, separated by AND, OR, or NOT and click on Search.

Click on the “PDF Full Text” or “HTML” icons to view the article.

If you don't get the results you're looking for, or too many, try other relevant terms.

Use the options in the Refine Menu on the left to narrow down your results.
